SOLD - A French Louis XVI period giltwood mirror from the late 18th century with original glass and richly carved crest depicting the Liberal Arts. This French giltwood mirror was born in the later years of the reign of King Louis XVI, at a time when France was witnessing the last breath of Absolute Monarchy. A rectangular frame, adorned with rais-de-coeurs, beads and twisted ribbons, supports the eye catching crest dedicated to the Allegory of Liberal Arts. Indeed, musical instruments and scores are surrounded by delicate foliage motifs. The paneled mirror plate is original. With its elegant silhouette and gracefully carved décor, this French Louis XVI mirror circa 1780 will be a wonderful decorative accent in any home, perhaps placed above a chest of drawers, console table or buffet.
