SOLD - English Victorian 19th Century Bronze Magnifying Glass with Floral Finial

SOLD - An English Victorian period bronze magnifying glass from the 19th century, with hand-painted floral themed ceramic finial. Created in England under the reign of Queen Victoria, this magnifying glass reminds us of the evolution of reading aids throughout the ages starting in the 11th century with reading stones made of polished and shaped rock crystals or glass and placed flat onto a text. Centuries later, the magnifying glass as seen here was used in society on a regular basis. Our particular magnifying glass features a casing and handle made of bronze that boasts a nice patina. The handle is adorned with a lovely cylindrical white ceramic finial decorated on the outside with gilded cross hatched motifs and a hand-painted bouquet surrounded by foliage at the extremity. Placed on a desk top or on a bookshelf, this English Victorian period bronze magnifying glass from the 19th century will make for a charming decorative addition to any home, particularly in an office or den.
