SOLD - English Victorian Period 19th Century Brass Magnifying Glass with Ceramic Finial

SOLD - An English Victorian period brass magnifying glass from the 19th century, with white ceramic finial and distressed patina. Created in England under the reign of Queen Victoria, this magnifying glass reminds us of the evolution of reading aids throughout the ages starting in the 11th century with reading stones made of polished and shaped rock crystals or glass and placed flat onto a text. Centuries later, the magnifying glass as seen here was used in society on a regular basis. Our magnifying glass features a casing and handle made of brass that boasts a nicely weathered patina. The turned handle is adorned with a spherical ceramic finial whose white color compliments the brass' golden tones beautifully. Placed on a desk top or on a bookshelf, this English Victorian period brass magnifying glass from the 19th century will make for a charming decorative addition to any home, particularly in an office or den. It has some rustic character.
