French 1870s Napoleon III Period Still-Life Painting with Giltwood Carved Frame

A French Napoleon III period still-life painting from the second half of the 19th century, signed and set in giltwood frame. This French still-life painting was born at the end of the reign of Emperor Napoleon III, at a time when France was losing its war against Prussia. This horizontal format features a mouth-watering arrangement of white and red grapes, cantaloupes and pears, accompanied with a delicate glass of wine. The fruits are so abundant that they cannot be contained on the platter on which they are displayed. The dark brown background and green cloth of the table allow the lovely colors of the fruits to stand out beautifully. Discreet painted accents on the glass and fruits reflect the light that is cast on them. The painting is signed lower right and set inside an exquisite carved giltwood frame. With its elegant subject and distinguished frame, this French still-life painting circa 1870 will compliment any décor beautifully, perhaps placed above a chest-of-drawers, buffet or side table.
