SOLD - Late 18th Century Gustavian Period Two-Drawer Painted Commode with Reeded Motifs

SOLD -A Swedish period Gustavian painted wood two-drawer commode with reeded motifs and tapered legs from the late 18th century. This exquisite Swedish chest features a rectangular marbleized top with molded edges, sitting above a discreet dentil molding typical of the Gustavian era. Equally representative of the Gustavian period are the reeded motifs that adorn the two simple drawers with ring pulls and central escutcheons. The side posts are adorned with fluted semi-columns, that seem to be barely emerging from their background and remind us of the Neoclassical taste for the Antiquity. The ensemble is raised on a straight skirt, whose simplicity contrasts beautifully with the texture of the drawers, side posts and tapered incised legs. Painted in a light grey color typical of the Scandinavian taste for soft palettes, this Swedish Gustavian 1780s two-drawer commode will compliment any room beautifully, from a bedroom to a living room.
