SOLD - French Louis XV Period Walnut Three-Drawer Commode from Provence, circa 1750

SOLD - A French period Louis XV walnut Provençale three-drawer commode from the mid-18th century, with delicate serpentine front and red marble top. Born in the Southern region of Provence during the Age of Enlightenment, this exquisite French Louis XV commode features a variegated red marble top, sitting above three hand-cut dovetailed drawers showcasing a discreet serpentine movement. All in restraint, the subtle decor of the drawers lets the grain of the wood shine beautifully. The bombé side posts are adorned with lovely carved rosettes, while the scalloped skirt is accented with a carved shell in its centre. The bombé sides are simply decorated with recessed panels. The commode is raised on four short scrolled feet, typical of the Louis XV era. With its distinguished marble top, graceful lines and exquisite patina, this French three-drawer commode circa 1750 will bring an elegant presence to any room, from a living room to a bedroom.
