SOLD - A pair of French framed oval grisaille paintings from the 19th century, depicting two putti. Created in France during the 19th century, each of this pair of grisailles features an oval frame boasting a nicely weathered patina, surrounding a chubby putto. One of them is sitting in the midst of a military camp. The sword held in his hands, the galea (helmet) left at his feet and the tents in the background confirm the military setting. The second painting however depicts a more humble pastoral subject, the putto casually sitting on a small wall and holding a rake with an urn at his feet. With their monochrome design and small proportions, this pair of 19th century French oval paintings will look wonderful anywhere, perhaps hung above a pair of demilunes!
