A French Provençal Directoire style wooden bench from the early 19th century, with rush seat and hand carved palmette motifs. Born in Provence during the early years of the 19th century, this exquisite French wooden bench presents the characteristics of the Directoire period. The open back is adorned with three pierced splats, adorned with stylized palmettes each set inside an oval medallion raised on a base. Two open splayed arms flank the long rush seat, while the ensemble is raised on a charming base, made of eight slightly sabered legs, connected to one another through spindle-shaped side stretchers. With its elegant décor and warm patina, this French 1810s Directoire style wooden bench will bring a stylish touch to any home, particularly in a living room.
