SOLD French Louis XV Walnut Canapé en Corbeille with Carved Bows, circa 1790

SOLD A French Louis XV walnut canapé en corbeille from the late 18th century, with carved bow and new upholstery. Created in France during the last decade of the 18th century, this canapé en corbeille reflects the delicate transition that happened between the rococo lines of the Louis XV era, and the calmer vocabulary of the Louis XVI period. The wraparound back is topped with an elegant carved ribbon while the two gracefully curving arms are partially upholstered on the top. The canapé has been recently reupholstered with a neutral double welt fabric and the seat, which is 24.75" D, presents a custom cushion. Raised on eight cabriole legs showcasing calmer lines than what was done during the rococo period, the canapé is accented with carved ribbons on the apron. With its calm lines and dark walnut patina, this French Louis XV canapé circa 1790, will bring an undeniable touch of elegance to any living room.
