SOLD A French Louis XVI style walnut three-drawer commode from the mid-19th century, with recessed cartouches, carved medallions and fluted side posts. Born in the mid-19th century at a time when the first president of France was about to crown himself Emperor Napoleon III, this walnut commode features a rectangular planked top with rounded corners in the front, sitting above three dovetailed drawers. Each drawer is adorned with an exquisite design of recessed cartouches with molded frames and linear bronze handles, flanking a medallion surrounding the central escutcheon. The rounded side posts are decorated with fluted motifs. The commode is raised on four cylindrical turned feet, connected to one another through a discreetly carved skirt on three sides. With its clean Louis XVI lines and lovely walnut patina, this French 1850s commode will bring a touch elegance to any home, whether placed in a bedroom, living room or foyer.
