SOLD - French Louis XV Period 18th Century Carved Wood Side Table with Red Marble Top

A French Louis XV period wooden carved side table with marble top from the 18th century. This French side table features a rectangular red veined marble top with rounded edge sitting on a nicely carved apron on all sides. This scalloped apron is adorned with foliage motifs, harmoniously placed in the center as well as the knees. The ensemble is raised on four cabriole legs with acanthus leaves, resting on hoofed feet. We are in the 18th century, under the reign of King Louis XV (1715-1774). His long reign saw the triumph of the curve. Throughout history, the battle between straight, clean lines and curvy shapes has been raging. Here however, there is no exaggeration, no real exuberance. While the legs are indeed curvy, the décor is not overwhelming. The marble top, great patina and lovely shape make this French 18th century table an excellent choice for any home.
