SOLD - Swedish Gustavian Style Three-Drawer Commode with Tapered Feet, circa 1860

SOLD - A Swedish Gustavian style painted wood three-drawer commode from the mid-19th century with tapered feet. This Swedish chest-of-drawers features a rectangular raised top with canted corners in the front, sitting above three dovetailed drawers, each adorned with two brass ring pulls flanking a central escutcheon. The canted side posts, placed in perfect continuity of the top's corners, gently lead the eye to the tapered feet on which the commode is raised. In traditional Gustavian manner, the front feet are angled while the back ones are straight. The commode is painted in a light color, typical of the Scandinavian taste for soft palettes, aiming at brightening the homes during the long, dark winters of Sweden. With its clean lines and understated decor, this Swedish Gustavian style commode circa 1860 will bring a touch of relaxed elegance in any home, whether placed in a bedroom, living room or hallway.
