SOLD - Swedish Gustavian Style Painted Wood Sideboard with Diamond Motifs, circa 1890

A Swedish Gustavian style painted wood sideboard from the late 19th century, with reeded diamond patterns and two drawers over two doors. This Swedish painted sideboard features a rectangular top with canted corners in the front, surrounded by a three-quarter wooden gallery. This top surmounts two drawers, adorned with elongated horizontal reeded diamond motifs, each accented in their center with a brass ring pull. Two doors placed below, make up the rest of the façade. They are each adorned with a recessed panel, decorated with a vertical reeded diamond motif, that visually plays with the décor of the drawers. The doors open to reveal two inner shelves offering a convenient storage area. The canted side posts are delicately fluted, and gently lead the eye to the short tapered feet that are angled in the front. The sideboard is painted in a light color, typical of the Scandinavian taste for soft palettes, aiming at brightening the homes during the long, dark winters of Sweden. With its clean Gustavian lines and understated décor, this Swedish painted sideboard circa 1890 will bring a touch of subtle elegance to any room, whether placed in a living room, dining room or foyer.
