SOLD - Småland Swedish Gustavian Style Painted Side Table, circa 1880

A Swedish Gustavian style late 19th century painted side table from Småland with reeded drawer and splayed tapering legs. Born in the southern province of Småland, this Swedish painted side table features a removable rectangular top with wooden pegs, sitting above a simple apron with single reeded drawer. The table is raised on four tapered legs, each adorned with discreet fluted motifs on their sides. Their slight splaying gives a interesting movement to the silhouette. The table is painted in a light color, typical of the Scandinavian taste for soft palettes, aiming at brightening the homes of the Swedes during the long, dark winters. With its elegant Gustavian lines and understated décor, this Swedish Småland side table, circa 1880 will compliment any home, whether placed in a living room, bedroom or powder room.
