SOLD Pair of 1820 Swedish Göteborg Gustavian Painted Bedside Tables with Reeded Doors

SOLD A pair of Swedish Gustavian early 19th century painted wood bedside tables from Göteborg with drawers and doors. Born during the early years of the 19th century in the Southwestern city of Göteborg (Gothenburg), each of this pair of Swedish bedside tables features a rectangular top with convex front, adorned with a wooden stepped three-quarter gallery. Each façade follows the delicate convex movement of the top, and showcases two drawers surrounding a central set of double doors with reeded patterns. These doors open thanks to a key to reveal a convenient storage area. The ensemble is raised on four fluted tapering legs. The commodes are painted in a light color, typical of the Scandinavian taste for soft palettes, aiming at brightening the Swedes' homes during the long, dark winters. With their clean lines and subtle decor, this pair of Swedish Gustavian bedside tables, circa 1820 will bring an elegant presence in any home, particularly in a bedroom.
