SOLD - French Oil on Wood Farm Painting from Aix-en-provence from the Late 19th Century

A French late 19th century unframed oil on panel farm painting from Aix en Provence signed by artist Luc Pedro. This horizontal oil on wood painting features a farm scene taking place in Southern France. Our eye is immediately drawn to the farm's thatched roof that occupies the left side of the composition. Some chickens are pecking at the ground, while a rooster is proudly standing tall on a bucket, surveying his domain. A woman and her child, protected by their pointer dog, are saying goodbye to the farmer who is leading his two horses away. The path that he is about to borrow, is leading our gaze to the young shepherdess and her milking cows. A petite chapel brings a delicate vertical to the right side of the composition, while the background is subtly accented by the warm colors of the fields, contrasting beautifully with the colder colors of the cloudy sky. The naive treatment of the ensemble gives a touching sense of sweetness, simplicity and humility. Unframed, this Luc Pedro oil on panel farm painting circa 1890 is signed lower right.
