SOLD - Neoclassical French 1810s White Painted Five-Drawer Commode from Aix-en-provence

SOLD - A French neoclassical early 19th century white painted five-drawer commode from Aix-en-Provence. This French painted wood commode was born in Aix-en-Provence, Southern France, during the 1810s. The chest features a rectangular top sitting above five dovetailed drawers, three smaller ones over two longer ones that open thanks to circular ring pulls. The side posts are adorned with elegant fluted side posts, whose clean lines, typical of the neoclassical period, create a perfect visual continuity on the façade. Each drawer is marked in its centre with a shield-shaped escutcheon. The commode is raised on four toupie legs whose delicate curves balance the linearity of the piece perfectly. The clean lines, combined with a nicely weathered painted finish, make this French 1810 Provençale commode an excellent choice for any home, perhaps placed in a bedroom, living room or foyer and accented with a giltwood mirror.
