SOLD - Swedish 1820s Gustavian Period Painted Clock Cupboard with Drop-Front Desk

SOLD - A Swedish Gustavian period painted clock cupboard from the early 19th century with drop-front desk, four doors and diamond motifs. This exquisite Swedish two-part 'clockskap' features an upper cabinet, topped with a molded cornice overhanging a central clock flanked with two doors. Each of these doors, adorned with elongated diamond motifs, opens to reveal three inner shelves. This upper cabinet sits on a larger, lower section, comprising a drop-front desk at the top. This drop-front opens up to reveal multiple inner drawers, offering great storage options. Finishing the ensemble, two lower doors, decorated with low-relief diamond motifs, open on two inner shelves. The piece is raised on four petite tapered feet. The cabinet is painted in a light color, typical of the Scandinavian taste for soft palettes, aiming at brightening the dark, long winters of Sweden. The clock is not currently in working condition but a quartz crystal could be added for an additional $150. With its great versatility and clean lines, this Gustavian period Swedish clock cupboard secretary, circa 1820 will be a problem solver in any home, bringing a touch of elegance anywhere.
