SOLD - Southern French 1850s Green Glazed Pottery Confit Pot with Two Handles

A French green glazed pottery confit pot from the mid-19th century with two handles and darker glazed accents. Born in France during the early years of Napoleon III's reign, this confit pot features a green glaze accented with darker accentuations on its belly. Traditionally used in Southern France to preserve duck or goose into its own fat and make it into various succulent dishes such as foie gras or confit, the pot was buried in the ground. Its double handles allow it to be moved more easily. With its nice proportions and sought after green glaze, this French confit pot circa 1850 will bring a touch of tradition and authenticity to any home.
