SOLD - 1640s French Louis XIII Period Walnut Armoire with Pointes de Diamant Motifs

SOLD - A mid 17th century French Louis XIII period walnut armoire with diamond-shaped motifs and bun feet. This French carved wood armoire features a large molded cornice, sitting above two beautifully carved doors adorned with diamond-cut motifs (pointes de diamant). We are in the 1640s close to the end of the reign of King Louis XIII. This early 17th century period shows a definite taste for linearity and geometrical motifs. The patterns alternate vertical arrangements with horizontal ones. The doors open to reveal four inner shelves with a single drawer. The ensemble, which is carved on three sides, is raised on bun feet whose rounded lines provide a delicate contrast with the regularity of the piece. Placed in any living room or bedroom, this French Louis XIII 1640s armoire will bring an elegant touch to a home.
