SOLD - 1810s Swedish Gustavian Period Painted Commode with Dentil Molding and Rosettes

SOLD - A Swedish period Gustavian painted three-drawer commode from the early 19th century, with dentil molding and rosettes. This Swedish Gustavian chest features a rectangular planked top with canted corners in the front, sitting above a delicate dentil molding running on three sides. The façade comprises three drawers, each adorned with a delicate low-relief geometrical motif. The oval-shaped hardware depicts mythological scenes, in a manner typical of the neoclassical taste for Greco-Roman antiquity. The canted side posts are adorned with delicate brass rosettes, with a design typical of the French First Empire, contemporary to our commode. The fluted skirt with its carved rosette, seems to be a visual response to the dentil molding of the upper section. With its clean, elegant lines and pale finish, typical of the Scandinavian taste for light color palettes, this Swedish Gustavian commode, circa 1810 will bring an undeniable touch of elegance to any bedroom, living room or hallway.
