SOLD - 1790s Swedish Period Gustavian Painted Drop-Front Secretary with Lower Drawers

SOLD - A Swedish Gustavian period painted wood drop-front secretary with original hardware from the late 18th century. This Swedish drop-front desk features clean, simple lines, typical of the Gustavian taste for a restraint elegance. The upper section conceals the desk portion that opens to reveal a multitude of inner drawers and open compartments, perfect for organizing papers and displaying small decorative objects. A long drawer is almost hidden under the cornice. Two solid metal curved rods support the writing area. Three graduated drawers make up the rest of the piece. The canted fluted side posts running along the entire height of the piece, create the perfect unity, visually connecting the writing area to the lower drawers. The short fluted tapering feet on which the secretary is raised are angled in the front, nicely following the Silhouette of the side posts, and straight in the back. With its light paint color, typical of the Scandinavian taste for pastel palettes, along with its flawless lines, this Swedish painted Gustavian drop-front desk, circa 1790 will bring a charming touch to any living room, bedroom or office.
