SOLD - French 1890s Neoclassical Revival Trumeau Mirror with Musical Trophy and Urns

A French Neoclassical Revival painted and gilded trumeau mirror with ribbon-tied musical trophy and urns from the late 19th century. This French mirror was born in the later years of the 19th century, at a time when Neoclassicism, that had spread throughout Europe in the late 18th century, became once more popular. Featuring a horizontal rectangular mirror plate surrounded by a bead-and-reel molding in its lower section, the mirror is beautifully adorned with a giltwood ribbon-tied musical trophy at the top, composed of lute and oboe amidst olive branches, symbolizing the liberal arts. The side posts are decorated with pilaster motifs, adorned with ribbon-tied floral motifs and carved urns. With its straight lines and its Antiquity inspired decorative vocabulary, along with its light grey paint accented with the golden hue of the giltwood motifs, this French 1890s Neoclassical Revival mirror will be a definite show-stopper, perhaps placed above an enfilade, credenza or console table.
