Dutch Baroque Style Painted Three-Drawer Bombé Commode from the 1890s - LNG

A Baroque style Dutch painted wood bombé three-drawer commode from the late 19th century. This painted commode was born in the Netherlands in the 1890s and features a shaped top with beveled edges over three drawers, the upper one being smaller than the lower two. These drawers are built according to a dance of concave and convex shapes, typical of the Dutch production of the time. The side posts are angled, thus accentuating the general impression of movement typical of the Baroque taste. The skirt is scalloped on the front. The ensemble is raised on two lion paw feet in the front and two straight ones in the back. The distressed paint, a witness to the age of the commode, is made of a light color palette, complimenting the sinuous lines beautifully. Placed anywhere in a home, this Dutch 1890s bombé chest of drawers will highlight any décor perfectly. We, at Jacqueline Adams Antiques, envision it placed under an exquisite giltwood mirror and perhaps anchored with a candlestick, or table lamp.
