SOLD - 1780s Swedish Neoclassical Period Painted Commode with Greek Key Frieze - Pent

SOLD - A Swedish neoclassical period painted commode with pull-out drawer, Greek key motif and carved Corinthian half-columns from the late 18th century. This Swedish painted commode features a rectangular top surrounded by a carved molding, sitting atop four drawers. A thin pull-out drawer adorned with a Greek Key frieze is located above three larger ones. Each drawer opens with brass ring pulls, the lower drawers being adorned with an oval escutcheon in the centre. The side posts are partially carved with fluted Corinthian half-columns. This fluted motif is echoed on the skirt as well as the four short tapered feet on which the chest is raised. The neoclassical décor, combined with the soft color typical of the Scandinavian taste for lighter finishes, will make this Swedish chest-of-drawers circa 1780 an excellent choice for any home, perhaps placed in a bedroom, living room or foyer. - Pent
