Born in the capital of Brittany, Rennes in the last year of king Louis XVI reign, this French wild cherry armoire features a large double bonnet cornice, accented in its centre with a delicate carved shell flanked with stylized foliage and dated 1792. Adorned with sawtooth and dentil accents, the cornice sits above two tall doors, arched in their upper section. These doors are decorated with curving panels, outlined with motifs echoed from the crest and a central dividing post adorned with exquisite vertical cartouches and a rosette. They open to reveal three inner shelves offering great storage opportunities. The ensemble is raised on four feet, the front ones showcasing spiralling motifs.
