SOLD - 1720s French Régence Period Walnut Three-Seat Canapé à Oreilles with Upholstery

A French Régence period walnut three-seat canapé à oreilles from the early 18th century with carved skirt and new upholstery. This French canapé was born during the short years of the Régence that saw the transition of power between feu King Louis XIV and King Louis XV who was too young to reign at his great-grandfather's death. The delicately scrolled walnut frame surrounds the three seats and is adorned with carved motifs on the upper rail, perfectly echoed on the skirt with its décor that announces the Rocailles period. Two arms supports, the 'oreilles', flank the sides. The back and seat have been reupholstered with an elegantly striped fabric. The settee is raised on eight cabriole legs, whose curvy lines will be particularly popular during the Louis XV period. With its graceful lines and lovely patina, this French Régence canapé circa 1720 will compliment any décor beautifully, from a living room to a bedroom.
