SOLD - French Louis XV Style Early 19th Century Wingback Chair with Scalloped Skirt

This French Louis XV style wingback chair from the early 19th century features a sturdy cotton upholstery with double welting over a delicate carved walnut body. The wingback, intended to provide the sitter with a sense of privacy, evolves into partially upholstered arms with scrolled knuckles. The skirt, scalloped on all sides, is adorned in its front center with a beautifully executed shell, flanked with foliage. The textured cabriole legs are decorated on their knees with acanthus leaves (echoed from the arms) and raised on hoofed feet. This texture is repeated on the skirt present on the sides, creating a perfectly harmonious feast for the eyes. Placed in front of a fireplace in a living room or library, this French early 19th century Louis XV style wingback upholstered chair would accentuate any décor beautifully. The seat depth is 21.75.
