SOLD - French Carved Wood Trumeau Mirror from Normandy with Oval Mirror and Shelf

SOLD - An unusual French 19th century carved wooden trumeau mirror from Normandy with large acanthus leaf base, shelf and oval mirror. Born in the Normandy region of France, this Northern French trumeau mirror features an unusual design. While the general linearity of the panelled background is typical of trumeau mirrors, the discreet movement and decorative vocabulary are quite unusual. The lower section is made of a large eye-catching acanthus leaf capital supporting a shelf, delicately adorned with an egg-and-dart molding. Directly above this, the oval mirror, decorated with foliage and floral motifs, stands out on its protruding section. A sunflower adorns its crest, while the side posts are richly adorned with a "chute" (literally a fall) of carved floral motifs. The simplicity of the natural wood highlights the richness of the carved decor beautifully, making this French Normand trumeau mirror from the 19th century a perfect choice for any home.
