French Louis XV Period 1750s Two-Drawer Walnut Commode with Shell Carved Skirt - PENT

A French Louis XV period petite walnut two-drawer commode with carved apron from the mid-18th century. This charming French commode features a serpentine top sitting above two drawers. Each drawer is decorated with carved panels framing the Rococo hardware, accented in the center with an oval medallion surrounding the escutcheon. The repetition of the medallion motifs on both levels gently leads the eye to the elegantly scalloped skirt, adorned in its center with a large shell. The side panels are carved in a motif echoed and adapted from the skirt, creating a visual sense of unity. The ensemble is raised on four cabriole legs with hoofed feet, typical of the Louis XV period. With its dark patina, accented by the golden hue of the hardware, its petite proportions and its refined decorative vocabulary, this French 1750s walnut commode will compliment any décor beautifully, from modern to traditional.
