Originally created in the Normandy area of France, bonnetières started to spread throughout France during the 18th century. Made to receive bonnets and ‘coiffes’ (the traditional headpieces of each region) this charming French bonnetière features an elegant molded tapering cornice, sitting atop a single door. This door presents chicken wire in its upper section and a molded panel at the bottom and is accented with a Rococo style hardware. It opens to reveal a blue grey painted interior that echoes the discreet accentuation of the façade. The adjustable shelves offer great storage possibilities. The ensemble is raised on four short feet, connected to one another through a delicately scalloped skirt on three sides. The bonnetière is painted in a light cream color with blue grey green accents. With its nice proportions and lovely distressed finish, this 19th century French bonnetière will bring a touch of relaxed elegance to any room, whether placed in a bedroom or living room.
